[ List of Items Expand · Collapse ]

1. Information of a nature that distributes, sells, rents, or publicly displays obscene symbols, text, sounds, images, or videos

Starting July 7th

Explicit text, sexual descriptions, erotic novels, dirty chatting and all that are now considered illegal content

Are we China or something?

Anyway... be careful with your posts and NSFW memes on community boards from now on..

Sexual comics, text, and images are now classified as "illegal content" in South Korea lmaooo

But why are upvotes only 8 now?

Guess I hit a nerve..

Seriously, shouldn't we all protest? They keep building a censorship state

🥚

If we protest they'll just paint us as porn-addicted incels and run with it

🐰

this is genuinely concerning though, where does it end? first images, now text... what's next?

That law's been enforced since 2007 — the content prohibition on obscene material. You've probably heard of internet obscenity distribution charges, right? That's what this is

🐿️

The law itself already existed, but the problem is NOW the government uses a filter for PRE-censorship before posts go up — only filtered posts are allowed. The intent is so blatantly obvious lmaooooooooo if you wanna argue look up Information and Communications Network Act Article 44-7-6

🐿️

I think pre-censorship is stupid and doesn't work, but most people reading the original post or comments think this clause is NEW when it's not

🥚

Looked it up — in 2007 when they defined illegal content they included obscene material distribution, but internet obscenity charges existed in the penalty section before that too

🥚

The difference is pre-censorship vs post-censorship, and right now only China does pre-censorship

🐿️

Looks like a 20-year-old clause... maybe you'd like to share how it feels discovering you've been living in China this whole time??

The censorship sucks but honestly OP you're being dumb — it's already written in the first line of the law from forever ago: https://www.law.go.kr/LSW//lsLawLinkInfo.do?lsJoLnkSeq=900629576&chrClsCd=010202&lsId=000030&print=print

The feminist activity surge lately is interesting lol similar to when dozens of 'get out and vote' posts were flooding in at the end of 2021

🐰

wait so they can censor what i TYPE now?? that's actually insane, basically 1984 at this point 💀

lmaooo this is why i'm switching to carrier pigeons, at least the government can't read those 😭
