Total social welfare spending is 337 trillion won, which is 15% of GDP—and that's similar to Switzerland's rate. Colombia spends about the same as us too. If we just look at GDP ratio, France spends 30%, double ours, so France is the weird one. OECD ranks us 29th out of 38 countries in welfare spending, and the top countries are European welfare states—but we're not exactly rolling in money like Europe, right? Plus Europe's budgets are squeezed out while they free-ride on defense and can't even manufacture shells. And when you compare countries with high welfare spending ratios to countries with high national debt, you see it's basically just borrowing sprees. We shouldn't aim for unlimited welfare states—we need policies based on free-market economics, not just 'give more, give more' ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
You're right, we ARE in the lower ranks among OECD members. That 29th ranking was from the 2010s when there were only 29-30 OECD members. As of 2022, we're 34th out of 38 countries—we've always been near the bottom. We just went up recently. Welfare spending being lower than OECD average <<that's just straight facts.
