I don't get why our country fantasizes about American-style firing γ γ γ If you harass people or wrongfully fire them like in Korea, you get absolutely hammered with lawsuits and have to pay attorney fees too. Why do Korean business owners think America is a dream country? If you do boss tyranny like in Korea, you just get sued and hit with punitive damages and become a broke bastard.
Real talk γ γ Usually it's cases where the business shuts down and the whole team goes flying, not just firing individual employees without reason because they suck or you don't like themβthat's just as hard. If anything the fines would be higher γ γ γ
America has at-will employment which makes it ridiculously easy, but that's different from Canada. You work yesterday and get into a fight with your manager the next morning and get fired immediately in America. They can do mass layoffs or fire one or two people on a whim. Of course, if you can prove unfair reasons like workplace harassment or racial discrimination, that's different. But that's Canada. Why do some people only live in Korea and keep going on about America??
I think it's because in America or Canada you can fire people that way, so managers on the ground feel power by squeezing employees over trivial stuff. Judging from how often it shows up in movies and dramas, there must be a lot of people like that in real life

Couldn't the manager have just handled it with discretion? Someone who worked that long to build up seniority would have a relationship where the manager could've easily just let it slide
