You gonna raise them then?
I get it. I'd probably struggle with it for a long time but would probably make the same choice.
That religion lol—if you can't compensate for all the extra costs, pain for the kid, the parents, and everyone around them, then don't trash on them. That's all I'm saying.
I'm pro-choice on this...
I don't get why they'd screen out a disabled fetus.
There was a kid with Down syndrome in my class in elementary school. His dad was always there to pick him up. Over 20 years later, I barely remember what my classmate looked like, but I still remember how hard and exhausted his father looked.
I think they did the right thing. Can't call people irresponsible when you see people caring for Down syndrome kids constantly.
I get it.
Screening tests exist for a reason.
I get it... There were even twin boys with it in my class... And honestly I hate saying this, but they had lower intelligence than animals. Plus there was an older brother and they lived in extreme poverty... Sometimes it still crosses my mind and just feels heavy.
That's why you shouldn't tell people you're pregnant until at least the nipt results come in at 11 weeks. I get anxious watching famous YouTubers post as soon as they see two lines lol... Some people say it's safe after 7 weeks but that's just after miscarriage risk drops—at least wait for bloodwork and then tell people.
You need to get pregnancy confirmation early to use reduced work hours during pregnancy since it only applies until week 12. Yeah, like you said, it's better to wait until birth and tell people when the baby's born.
I'm a dad of two, but choices need to be respected. Thankfully both my kids are healthy, but if mine was like that I would've hesitated and thought hard about it too. Living kids come before potential ones—who's gonna support the parents who'd suffer because of this child?
Why do people who aren't responsible for anything get to tell others what to do? If someone has a Down syndrome baby and their life goes to shit, are you gonna co-parent?
